What is IML?
IML stands for Information and Media Literacy. This is a really fancy way of saying that you know how to take information from different types of print and media sources and use it in a smart way. It is one of the 7-week Related Arts classes that students rotate through each year at Jay Stream.
IML helps students to:
Ask thought provoking questions
Decide where to look for the answers to those questions
Search safely and effectively online
Organize information in different ways
Learn how to use different technology resources
Avoid plagiarism
Evaluate sources to determine if they are good or bad
Analyze advertisement techniques
Think creatively
Work cooperatively with peers
Understand how the media tries to persuade us
Learn to deliver a clear message to an audience
Identify target audiences
